MidOpt - DB395/870 Dual Bandpass Absorptive Visible (VIS) + Near-Infrared (IR) Filter
SKU: DB395/870-25.5
The MidOpt DB395/870 Dual Bandpass Absorptive Visible (VIS) + Near-Infrared (IR) Filter passes violet ultraviolet (UV) and IR wavelengths while blocking all green and red light and are typically used in Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) imaging applications. When using a single camera modified for aerial agricultural surveillance, using one of these so-called “Superblue” or “Infrablue” filters allows reflected near-IR (NIR) light (745-970nm) to be captured in the camera sensor’s red channel and reflected violet light (375-425nm) to be captured in the sensor’s blue channel (the green channel is not used). Even when using an inexpensive consumer camera (that has first had its IR blocking filter removed), this separation makes it possible to post-process the red and blue channels for NDVI by performing the calculation: NDVI = (red – blue) / (red + blue). Healthy vegetation will absorb (not reflect) blue light and strongly reflect NIR light. While “Superblue” filters similar to DB395/870 have been used a lot during recent years, the following filters may be an even better option: DB475/850 or DB660/850 Dualband Filters. MidOpt Multi-Bandpass Filters have a broad, Gaussian passband to mimic and accommodate the entire output of the most common LED wavelengths, are double-side polished for exceptional parallelism and optical flatness, are anti-reflection (AR) coated to limit glare and minimize reflection loss and have StablEDGE technology to reduce angular dependency and minimize the effects of short-shifting.
